This course covers the signs, symptoms, and cures of the spiritual diseases of the heart. In addition to covering the text Purification of the Heart with commentary by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf,  students will also be prompted to explore the topics through their own literary expression.  Every week, after learning about spiritual diseases and their cures, students will learn a new poetic or writing form,  with details and examples.  Below is a list of the course outline. 

Class One:  9/7 - Negative Thoughts / Couplets

Class Two:  9/14 -  Fraud / Couplets W/ Meter

Class Three:  9/21 - Rancor / Tercets

Class Four:  9/28 - Boasting & Arrogance / Sestina

Class Five: 10/5 - Obliviousness to Blessings / List Poetry

Class Six: 10/12 - Comprehensive Treatment of the Heart / Quatrains

Class Seven: 10/19 - Beneficial Actions for Purifying the Heart / Ballad

Class Eight: 10/26 - The Root of all Diseases / Sonnet
