This course covers the signs, symptoms, and cures of the spiritual diseases of the heart. In addition to covering the text Purification of the Heart with commentary by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf,  students will also be prompted to explore the topics through their own literary expression.  Every week, after learning about spiritual diseases and their cures, students will learn a new poetic or writing form,  with details and examples.  Below is a list of the course outline. 

Week one (5/18):  Blameworthy modesty / Couplets.

Week two (5/25): Fantasizing / Quatrains

Week three (6/1): Fear of poverty / Narrative poetry

Week four (6/8): Ostentation / Soliloquy

Week five (6/15): Reliance on other than God / List poem

Week six (6/22): Displeasure with the Divine decree / Pastoral Poetry

Week Seven (6/29): Seeking Reputation / Letter Writing

Week Eight (7/6): False Hopes / Once upon a time... 

Ages: 12-15
